I now have received the family profile of Audrey, which was provided by Joe Mankowitz and gives a much more personal view of her life outside of her Lusitania reputation. To see it, click on the file below

FUNERAL PICTURES

Audrey was given a first-rate farewell in a very moving service which amply demonstrated her long and fascinating life. As you will see from the few pictures I took, the crowds came in numbers to say goodbye and her favourite Charity - the RNLI stood the Honour Guard. Also there were the Temperance Seven whom Audrey loved.

Today, Saturday February 5th, celebrates the life of one of Melchbourne's most prominent, loved and venerated citizens - Audrey Lawson-Johnston.  As a relative (12 yrs) newcomer to the village I do not feel qualified to profile Audrey, but I am promised a write-up from her family giving us a view of Audrey post-Lusitania for which she was most famous.  The family feel that not enough was said in the press regarding her later life. I agree because the Audrey L-J I remember was ever cheerful, always there to support village events and always looking at you and talking to you with that mischievous sparkle in her eye, and wisdom in her reflections!

Audrey laid in Melchbourne Church attended by her family last night, and her funeral, for which a large turn-out is expected will be held later today.
